A Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is a cosmetic procedure and form of buttock augmentation where healthy fat from other parts of your body is extracted through liposuction and redistributed to your buttocks. The re-injected fat can be used to enlarge, contour, and sculpt the gluteal region to increase the roundness and fullness of your butt, giving you a more proportionate figure.

Before your Brazilian butt lift procedure, ensure you get adequate time off from work—at least 5-7 days to rest and allow your body to adjust. Preparation for BBL is very simple for most patients. During your preoperative appointment, we will discuss your plan of action to ensure your journey aligns with your health and recovery. Every patient’s preparation is customized specifically to their health history, and patient safety is always a priority.

You can expect the results of BBL to add lift and curves to your bottom as well as reduce fat in other parts of the body.

The results of your Brazilian butt lift will be noticeable immediately following the procedure. You’ll see a difference in the shape of your butt and slimmer contours around the fat donor sites. The final, natural-looking results of your BBL will continue to become visible over time as swelling subsides and the shape of your butt settles into its final form. It may take up to one year for your buttocks to reach its final shape. 

After your Brazilian butt lift surgery, you’ll wear a stage 1 light compression garment for a minimum of 15 days to tighten the skin and reduce swelling. For most procedures, you can use oral medication, such as acetaminophen only, to manage any pain and the initial swelling. After your BBL surgery, you will need to sleep on your stomach or side until your buttocks area heals completely. It will generally take a month or so for the bruising and swelling from a BBL surgery to subside. Sitting is not recommended after a Brazilian butt lift procedure for the first 30 days. You should also avoid strenuous exercise or physical activities during the recovery period.

Butt implants are made from soft, malleable silicone that provides a natural-looking result. However, they pose a significant risk for infection or tissue rejection because they’re made of materials foreign to the body. Since this plastics procedure uses your own natural fat, there’s little to no risk of infection or rejection.

Additionally, fat transfer BBL has the added benefit of contouring other parts of your body that act as fat donor sites. Brazilian butt lift recovery times, on average, are also much shorter than the initial recovery period after butt implant procedures.
